I decided to draw the "images" that people see in the ink onto tracing paper rather than directly onto the blot, so that the original ink blot can be viewed without bias, and the illusion isn't ruined by forcing one persons image or perspective onto all later viewers.
I created some ink blots to give an example of pareidolia- various people saw several different images in the ink, which I found interesting. I plan to create more ink blots, and to draw the images that people see. Here, I decided to make a sketch that incorporated anamophosis, so I drew a simple ball image on a folded piece of paper, cutting around the top half of the drawing. When the paper is folded, it gives the image the appearance of "floating". I think this was a simple, but sucessful test sketch. I decided to practice my drawing of reflections and realistic images a little. This is a chalk and charcoal sketch of a metal spoon, where I tried to portray the light and reflections of the object. I think it was fairly successful, but though chalk and charcoal is a good medium for showing shading in an image, it isn't very "neat", so your images won't have crisp outline, which can make portraying object with clear outlines (such as ceramic, metal or plastic items) slightly more difficult and less realistic. This is my mood board- a page of imagery related to my subject. The left side contains imagery involving "anamorphosis", including street art, and the right side consists of images that show samples of "pareidolia", images that don't really exist, but the human brain recognises as being there. Research into artists related to my idea. I used the template recommended to us to ensure that my research would contain all information that was required. Mind-mapping ideas for my FMP. I decided to follow the idea of "optical illusions", which led to to research "pareidolia", the phenomenon of seeing faces in things such as clouds and wood grain, and "anamorphosis", a renaissance style of painting a "warped" image that becomes clear at a certain angle or viewpoint. |
